M.1.01 - How to Keep Students in Texas…There’s No Place Like Home

Session Description: How to keep students in Texas is becoming a growing problem in higher education. I am looking forward to sharing ways to help Texas students realize there truly is no place like home. Financial incentives such as lower student debt with in-state tuition, scholarships, first generation student support, marketing our campuses and nearby amenities and supporting each other as higher education partners are just a few of the ideas that will be presented.

Session Description: How do you recruit when the world feels like it’s about to end and you still have to meet enrollment goals? The HSC College of Pharmacy will share their experience reaching enrollment goals despite a 20% national downturn in applications, COVID-19, and new leadership. We will also share information on attracting and increasing enrollment of underrepresented minority students  as well as involving faculty in the recruitment process.

T.1.02 - Enhancing Higher Education Opportunities for Foster Care

The presentation will introduce the attendees to Education Reach for Texans, a statewide organization seeking to eliminate barriers to success and build support programs for alumni of foster care attending public colleges and universities in the state of Texas. Additionally, the presentation will introduce the attendee to the Supreme Court of Texas Children’s Commission, which is a statewide, multi-disciplinary collaborative body that includes high-level membership from the executive, judicial, and legislative branches of Texas government, along with child welfare partners in the private sector. This presentation will focus on the Children’s Commission Education Committee. Finally, the presenters will discuss the role of the Foster Care Alumni Liaison at public institutions of higher education in Texas.

T.1.03 - Commencement Ceremonies During a Pandemic

Session Description: The COVID-19 pandemic forced universities to cancel, postpone, or virtually offer their Spring commencement ceremonies.  Two university presidents vowed to provide their students real, in-person graduation experiences in August to make up for their cancelled May ceremonies.  Come and hear the two different, yet very successful, approaches to an in-person commencement ceremony in the time of a pandemic put forth by SMU and Texas A&M-Commerce.

T.2.01 - It’s a Virtual World of Enrollment Management

Come hop on and hear about engaging your students in the virtual world. We will discuss how Texas Tech University & the University of Texas at Arlington have implemented virtual events and high school recruitment through the last 6 months. This new form of recruitment has been challenging for all of us, but it has allowed us to think outside the box and implement programs to keep after the pandemic.

Join a representative from the AACRAO Board of Directors for an update on what is transpiring in Washington, DC. T.3.01 - How Has COVID-19 Changed DACA/First Time in College Recruitment?

Session Description: It took COVID-19 just a few days to turn the undergraduate recruitment and admissions world upside down. The challenges were immediate and complex. At UTRGV 92% of the student population is Hispanic, 54% are first generation, and 80% receive financial aid. Each of these populations require consideration and care when it comes to college access. We will discuss the strategies UTRGV used to keep students in the pipeline engaged and ultimately enroll.

T.3.03 - How the Student Mindset has Changed and How It Effects Recruitment in a World of COVID-19

When COVID-19 arose, it drastically changed higher education recruitment. Campus tours, high school visits, and college fairs all adapted quickly to offer college search information to students in a virtual world. However, COVID-19 also changed the way high school students think and their outlook on the college search, college admissions and higher education process in general and this has also affected recruitment. This session will focus on how we are seeing the student mindset change since COVID-19 and how it affects college recruitment.

GREAT Outcomes for Students: Reverse-Engineering Strategic Enrollment Management

GREAT is an acronym that stands for Graduate, Retain, Engage, Admit, and Tell. It is an organizing framework that reverse-engineers the strategic enrollment management process by beginning with the end in mind and working backward to develop activities supporting student success outcomes. This workshop will equip participants with strategies for an integrated and aligned approach to strategic enrollment management, including developing action plans that focus on GREAT outcomes for students.
