Dave StonesHonorary Membership (2013) Dave married Christine in 1976. They have two sons, Daniel and Carl, and enjoy spending time with family and the grandchildren. Dave receives much pleasure from participation as a longtime Boy Scout leader, service project coordinator, and sports coach/enthusiast. Dave refers to his career as the "Texas Two Stop." (As you may know, Dave is very "punny".) His Texas Two Stop career includes 35 years at UT Austin, 20 of which were spent managing the student information systems and overseeing extensive automation for over 50,000 students. The second stop, after retirement from UT, included 12.5 years up the road to the North, at Southwestern University in Georgetown as Registrar serving a student population of about 1,200. Whether you know Dave personally or not, if you work in higher education in the state of Texas you are impacted daily by the work of Dave Stones. Dave was integral in the development of the first 5 years of operation of the UT Austin server which handles the Apply Texas applications for admission and electronic transcript interchanges. This system has delivered around 11 million transcripts and over 38 million total transactions. Nationwide, Dave is known for his service on the Initial AACRAO SPEEDE Committee from 1988-94. He has automated transcripts for everyone from the Austin ISD, to UT, and has had a great impact on the development of SPEEDE nationally. Dave said that accomplishments which are memorable to him include: serving as the TACRAO President 2009-10 and SACRAO President in 1992-93. He co-chaired the LAC for TACRAO 2006 in Austin, where he helped us all to keep Austin Weird. A lover of technology, he coordinated the first two AACRAO Technology conferences in 2003 and 2004, wrote the first UT Austin transcript print program in 1977, and then moved Southwestern University away from "gummed label, gym registration" in 2005. 2013 has been a year of many honors for Dave, as he received honorary membership in SACRAO and AACRAO earlier this year, now completing the tri-fecta by being awarded Honorary Membership by TACRAO. I had the distinct honor of serving on the Executive committee with him when he was Austin LAC. His quick wit, his ability to "keep it light" and his impromptu ability to turn any meeting place into a hospitality suite after meeting hours, was much appreciated. Our organization stands in awe of your accomplishments, Dave, and we are forever indebted to you for your service. It is my pleasure to bestow on you, my colleague and friend, this TACRAO Honorary Membership. I now ask that you come forward and say a few words to our members.
