Lisa Serna

Honorary Membership (2021)
University of Texas - Health Science Center in San Antonio

Throughout her career, Lisa made many very close friends through UT Health Sciences Center -San Antonio and TACRAO, many of whom she now regards as family. At the time of retirement, she had completed 43 years of service in the Registrar's Office holding many different positions. A legacy like that means her name will be uttered over and over again - "Lisa knew that," and "that started with Lisa," and of course "I wish Lisa was still here." More importantly, though, a legacy like that is reflective of the tens of thousands of students who were impacted by her dedication to higher education in the registrar's office.

Lisa is known for many admirable attributes, including her genuine kindness, her compassion, her strong customer service, her abilities to marry the functional world with the technical world, her hard work ethic, and certainly her intelligence. However, if you ask Lisa, she will tell you that one of the things she was the worst at was managing. Lisa thought she was too nice to be "the mean one" and evaluate staff and reprimand them. But, friends think that what Lisa probably failed to see is that she was still a figure of authority to so many as leadership starts with compassion and care for your peers - and that's exactly how she operated.

She provided the following quote: "Life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP." (Leonard Nimoy)
