I am happy to present this report to the Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers (TACRAO) on behalf of the Honorary Membership and Recognition Awards Standing Committee. This committee is charged to identify and recommend candidates to the TACRAO Executive Committee for Honorary Membership and Special Recognition Awards.

In an attempt to identify potential candidates for these prestigious awards, the committee chair sent an email to the membership on August 27, 2014 for the purpose of soliciting information regarding members who might be eligible to receive the Honorary Membership award or the Special Recognition Award. The Honorary membership is meant for active members who are retiring and for those active members who will no longer be affiliated with TACRAO due to a relocation outside of Texas. Unfortunately the membership had no suggestions of individuals for these awards at that time. The chair sent an additional email to key TACRAO members and some possible candidates were identified.

The chair contacted the TACRAO Secretary in an attempt to identify any members who were retiring or have moved outside the state that had a minimum of 60 points. There was only one candidate selected for the Honorary Membership which is Fred Russell formerly of East Texas State University in Commerce. This will be a posthumous award as sadly, Fred passed away in 1996. His contributions to TACRAO will never be forgotten.

The committee did have a nomination from the membership for a retired member who qualified for the Special Recognition award. This award recipient is Cheryl Rich, formerly of Texas A & M University.

These recommendations were approved by the TACRAO Executive Committee.

Neither of the candidates will be in attendance at the Waco meeting. The Special Recognition award will be presented by Trey Hattaway and received for Cheryl Rich by Michelle Walker and the Honorary Membership award for Fred Russell will be presented by Wanda Munson and will be received by Kim Rainey Taylor. The committee will prepare the citations and gather photos for use in the presentation. The Executive Committee will prepare the plaques.

I would like to express my sincere thanks to Trey Hattaway from Kilgore College and Sherry Benoit from Lamar University for their outstanding service to this committee.

Lastly, in addition, it is with great sadness, respect, and admiration that we award Honorary Membership posthumously to Gretchen Voight, who served Southern Methodist University with distinction, and was currently serving as TACRAO’s Executive Committee Secretary when her spirit passed from this world last spring. During their careers, each of these Honorary Members exemplified the greatness of our fine organization.
