Debbie began her career in higher education at Texas A&M - Corpus Christi in June 1995 in the Financial Aid Office.  In November 1997, she made the move to The University of Texas Pan American in Edinburg where she served in several roles until December 2020.  Financial Aid, Recruitment, Visitors Center, New Student Orientation, Admissions, Interim Registrar and the Student Service Centers.

Debbie’s favorite memories of TACRAO are:

• Serving on the Local Arrangements Committee and hosting TACRAO at South Padre Island in 2017. The weather cooperated and the South Padre Island Chamber of Commerce were helpful and accommodating.
• Serving as the Chair of the Legislative Committee. She worked with a great committee to keep track of all the legislation. It was both challenging and fun.  
• Watching her dear friend, Sofia Montes, lead TACRAO as President in Galveston in 2019.

She provided the following quote “My participation in TACRAO provided me with the knowledge and resources I needed to be successful in the various positions I served during my career.   I have fond memories and have made lasting friendships.”

She is staying close to home for now, but she and Carlos have plan to travel the United States in an RV once he retires.

For her service to higher education, and to TACRAO, I am pleased to recognize Ms. Debbie Gilchrist as TACRAO Honorary Member 2021.
