SEM in Action: Turning Enrollment Data into Strategy

This interactive workshop introduces mid-level professionals to Strategic Enrollment Management through a practical, hands-on case study. Working with a fictional institution, participants will explore how enrollment goals and key performance indicators connect to data, identify strategic enrollment opportunities, develop an actionable strategy, and consider the structures needed to move from Strategic Enrollment Planning to ongoing Strategic Enrollment Management.

 Participants will leave with a high-level framework they can adapt to their own institutions.

Sylvia has nearly 30 years of experience in higher education enrollment management, financial aid and strategic planning, working with traditional, graduate, and online recruitment. Known for building strong, trust-based relationships, Sylvia not only brings a high level of expertise but a client-centered approach to each project.

 Most recently, Sylvia spent thirteen years as a senior leader at Ruffalo Noel Levitz, where she led strategic enrollment and financial aid consulting partnerships with more than 35 diverse campuses across the U.S., including Bryant University, Chapman University, Walsh University, Xavier University of Louisiana and the University of Montana. Her work focused on aligning campus goals with strategy and guiding the implementation of that strategy to success. Prior to RNL, Sylvia was chief enrollment officer at Northwood University overseeing traditional undergraduate, graduate and adult degree completion/online enrollment as well as retention for all programs. Her time on campus included combining all of the enrollment areas under one umbrella, significant increases in traditional and adult degree completion enrollment, implementation of a shared transfer curriculum for all programs as well as significant improvements in financial aid offer letters and billing communication strategies.

Sylvia holds a Master of Library Science degree from Texas Woman’s University and bachelor’s degree in history and music from Sam Houston State University, where she began her higher ed career. Sylvia lives in Fort Worth, Texas with her husband and is active in her community, serving as a volunteer reading mentor at their local elementary school.
