Joneel Harris

Honorary Membership (2006)
University of North Texas

Dr. Joneel Harris began an outstanding career in higher education as a student at North Texas State University in the early sixties. During more than thirty years of service to the University of North Texas she served in many positions, including Registrar and Vice- President for Enrollment Management. During her tenure, she has led the university and our profession in implementing new and innovative ways to more effectively serve students. In her personal and professional life she represents the best spirit of higher education: a respect for tradition and a yearning for an exciting, innovative future.

Joneel's contributions to TACRAO are legion. She has served as Secretary/Treasurer, Treasurer, President and Past President. She has served on TACRAO committees and task forces that have improved education across the State of Texas. As an example of the vision and hard work she brought to TACRAO, I ask "How important is TACRAO's tax exempt status to the strength of this organization and the benefits we all reap from our membership?" Joneel had the vision and commitment to guide the long process required to establish our non-profit status. Perhaps most important, she has been friend and mentor to many across our state.

You might think that such professional accomplishment would preclude any other life. Not for Dr. Harris. She drives a "diesel pusher" motor home better than a teamster. She has reigned as the Texas State Trap Shooting Champion. She and her husband Richard have been married for 43 years. She is known by her two children and three grandchildren as 'Super Mom.'

Joneel, for your contributions, vision, and professionalism to the association and friendships you made as you mentored others through the years, it gives me great pleasure to award you honorary membership in TACRAO.
