Mary Kincannon

Honorary Membership
Texas Christian University

It is my pleasure to introduce TACRAO’s newest honorary member Mrs. Mary Kincannon.

Mary first set foot in the TCU Registrar’s Office in August, 1971, when she was hired as a student worker.  She earned a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics degree in 1975, and then spent a year as a substitute teacher and in the Registrar’s Office working on various projects. In fall 1976, Mary was hired as the Home Economics teacher at Nolan High School, the Catholic high school in Fort Worth.  She also spent most summers working in the Registrar’s Office.

In 1983, as part of a mainframe computer system implementation team, Mary was hired full-time as Assistant Registrar. She was named an Associate Registrar in 1995, and in 2004 also became the administrator of summer school.

When Pat Miller retired in 2015, Mary became the TCU Registrar.  Staff retirements, frozen hiring and working through changes prompted by the pandemic definitely made the last few years challenging.  Mary retired on September 30, 2021, fifty years after she began.

Throughout her career, Mary was very active in TACRAO, frequently presenting at annual meetings, serving on committees, and she chaired many committees including the ad hoc Nominations and Elections Review Committee.

Mary was also very active in SACRAO, including eight years on the SACRAO Executive Committee, culminating with a year as SACRAO President in 2013.    Even in retirement, she continues to serve on SACRAO committees, and received SACRAO Honorary Membership in February 2022.

Mary is proud of her family.  She met her husband, Bryan, when they were both teaching at Nolan.  Bryan taught and coached, and Mary taught and sponsored the cheerleaders.  They just celebrated their forty-fifth anniversary.  Their son, James, and his family live around the corner, so time spent with James and Lara, and their children JD (3.5 years) and Zoe (2 years) is important. Bryan retired after forty years in the classroom.  James has followed in his dad’s steps, and is a high school coach at a private school in Fort Worth.

Traveling, doing lots of needlework, tending to flower beds, reading, working out, attending high school and TCU athletic events, and playing with the grandkids – life can’t get much better than this!

It is my pleasure to welcome my colleague, friend, and now TACRAO Honorary Member Mary Kincannon to the podium.
